Why shall I make an Elementalist?
I've never really liked Elementalists, maybe because I've never made one. I have already got characters which I use in PvE so if I would make an ele it would be for farming or PvP.
At the moment I'm farming with a rit and it works great. Are Elementalist better than rits at farming? Are Elementalists really good at PvP? And why shall I make an ele?

Eles are plenty of fun in PvE. Heres some reasons why;
- Rodgort's Invocation in probably the most fun skill out there
- You get to set stuff on fire
- You get accepted into groups easily
- You get good armor skins
- etc, etc

Ele's are usually support / utility class characters in GvG, usually carrying spells like Weapon of Warding and Wielder's boon being E/Rt. Or Shield of Regen as E/Mo.
They can be flag runners (using air speed boosts), snarers (water), or just plain pyros (usually SH or SF)
With an E/A you can solo farm many bosses, there are also some HM solo farming builds for elementalists too, and UW solo builds (not sure how well they do now because of the stoneflesh nerf)

If by PvP you mean RA and AB then it really doesn't matter what class you make. As long as you don't play stupidly, you're already better than 90% of those "PvP" players. For real PvP (GvG), Eles are powerful util characters and runners.

Elementalists can be great fun to work with. Great damage output, and incredibly versatile. Abilities include speed boosts, snaring, blinding, burning, inflicting damage spikes, widespread AoE, defensive wards... You can choose to specify as a pure damage caster, a purely defensive support/utility caster, or a mixture of both (whatever takes your fancy, or whatever your team needs most in PvP). Not to mention that as an Elementalist, you can develop an insanely huge energy pool which effectively lets you cast any spell you want. With that much versatility, an Elementalist should have no problems at all coming up with a few farming builds; and you'll have few problems getting into groups.
As far as getting a character's overall look perfect, I'm not a big fan of the armor options available to males. But the female armors look very pretty.

Two words.... Searing Flames
because it's the only Ele that can get into doa groups...
but seriously that's not the only way to go...I enjoy using air magic a lot whether it's B-surge (which owns Shiro's face btw), Invoke lightning or going dual attunement air spiking is fun!
I'm not a fan of the ele armor either...that's why mine just has docks armor (with exception of her vabbian fire crystal) because I'm waiting for GW:EN armor.

PvE is obvious for eles, either earth tank or fire nuker(echo MS, SF, SH, whatever)
PvP is a different story, fire nukers are an option(especially in low lvl PvP mainly AB and aspenwood) and water eles as all around support
in GvG air runners(with spiking potential) or water eles dominate, shatterstone+blurred vision+snares+e-management is good for all kinds of PvP best part of shatterstone is that even if you remove it you still take the additional damage
